BOISE - Plastic shopping bags are the target of three Boise teens who are looking for a way to help the environment.

The teens believe the message to 'bag plastic' is getting through to people.

"Our project is to raise awareness for our youth about reducing and recycling plastic bags," said Samantha Woods, an organizer for the 'Got Bags' campaign.

Ashlyn, Alexa and Samantha believe the message to 'bag plastic' is getting through to people and now they've collected thousands of plastic shopping bags.

"Just seeing this is amazing to me and I hope it's amazing to others too," said Alexa Ries, an organizer for the 'Got Bags' campaign.

The teens started the 'Got Bags' campaign asking elementary school students to bring in plastic bags.

The trio of girls stores the bags at the Western Idaho Fairgrounds for the time being, but the plastic bags will soon be shipped to a recycler.

The girls are urging the community to remember the three R's.

"We are trying to teach people to reduce, re-use, and recycle plastic bags," Ries said.

The teens say it's small and simple, but it really makes a big difference for Mother Earth.
