BOISE - We all know Boise is a great place to live and work.

But now one of its neighborhoods is receiving some national attention.

Boise's North End has been designated one of the top 10 great neighborhoods for 2008 by the American Planning Association. The North End was singled out because of its neighborhood activism, common sense planning and enduring physical beauty.

"As someone who grew up in the North End, it is an honor to be recognized as one of America's 10 Great Neighborhoods," Mayor David Bieter said. "Residents of the North End have always taken great pride in their neighborhood. I think this is indicative of our entire city and what makes Boise the most livable city in the country."

The nine other APA 2008 Great Neighborhoods are: Echo Park, Los Angeles, CA; Greater Park Hill, Denver, CO; Old Town Wichita, Wichita, KS; Downtown Salem, Salem, MA; Charles Village, Baltimore, MD; Greater University Hill, Syracuse, NY; Village of Mariemont, Cincinnati, OH; Society Hill, Philadelphia, PA; and Downtown Sheridan, Sheridan, WY.
