Bartering business booming in tough economy
By Nicole Navarro
BOISE - Bartering is the name of the game at U-Exchange.com, where you can find everything from used kitchen tables to babysitting services. No money is involved, unless it's to make a trade equal.
"Oh, it's been incredible," said John C. Moore, U-Exchange founder. "The site is being hit very hard." Between February and March of last year, the site had nearly 426,000 page views. During the same time this year, the number has increased by 148 percent. "That tells me that people need our services right now," Moore said. In general, the Better Business Bureau said it's a good idea for consumers to do their homework before bartering. "Research the other party as much as possible," said Dale Dixon of the Better Business Bureau. "Understand that it's most likely going to be what you see is what you get."
