Idaho school questions attendance policy

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — High school students in Twin Falls can skip finals if they miss fewer than four days in any given class.
But The Times-News reports that in the midst of a swine flu pandemic, some are questioning the policy. The attendance rules mean that if a student has exemplary attendance, he or she may skip the final two days of a semester. Canyon Ridge High School Principal Brady Dickinson says he's hearing from some parents who are worried that kids with flu symptoms will still go to class because they don't want to take finals. Dickinson says he doesn't want sick kids in school, but the policy is designed to encourage regular attendance and it's made a real difference for some kids. ___ Information from: The Times-News |
