BOISE - Sending a loved one away to war causes worry and fear for parents like Timothy Stanley and Lynn Ciavarella back home.

"We're concerned," Stanley said. "We don't know where he's going to be and and how safe he is or what's going to happen."

But these parents never thought their children would be in danger on a U.S. military base.

"I didn't think I'd have to worry about my son being on American soil," Ciavarella said.

Ciavarella and Stanley both have sons who are stationed with the U.S. Army at Ft. Hood in Texas.

"He was a Boy Scout," she said. "He's been in uniform ever since, elementary."

"Done good for himself," Stanley said. "He's really worked himself up to be Sgt. First Class now."

On Thursday afternoon, a soldier opened fire at Ft. Hood in Texas, killing at least 12 and wounding dozens of others. Neither family has heard from their sons, James Stanley and Brandon Barbour.

"Kind of wondering what's happened to him," Stanley said. "You never know."

"I was really scared for Brandon," Ciavarella said.

The shooting spree has each set of parents questioning security on all U.S. military bases.

"I think it's horrible," she said.

"I don't know if they carry guns on the base or not, but either way, you would have no idea," Stanley said.

For now, both families say all they can do is wait, and hope for good news.
