BOISE - A winter like storm passing through Idaho is putting some parents of University of Idaho students on edge.
The rivalry football game between the Vandals and the Broncos takes place Saturday, and is drawing a lot of college students to the capital city. Local mother, Robyn Tolmie, said she doesn't condone skipping class, but she wanted her son to get on the road early. "He's driving his own car, he's bringing a couple of friends with him and they're leaving after classes," Tolmie said. "They will be driving when it's later and darker. I am very nervous." Another concerned parent, Lisa Reeves, said she's glad her daughter will be staying in Moscow. "I've always worried about my kids driving home on (Highway) 95, especially in the winter time so I really prefer she stays up there," Reeves said. The Idaho Transportation Department says it's ready to weather any type of storm. "We have the sand, we have the magnesium chloride, we have salt, we are certainly prepared for whatever comes along," said Reed Hollinshead, spokesperson for ITD. The last time the football game came to Boise was in 2007. ITD reported three accidents in a four-day period including game day, on Highway 55 and 95. "Last time was good and we are crossing our fingers this time will be just as safe," Hollinshead said. |
