Terrorism and Islam

A student group who posted what many people think was a racist flier around Boise State University last month, are now stirring the pot again. This time they're sponsoring an event focusing on radical Islam. The college's Young Republicans are bringing an author to talk about radical Islam and terrorism. Some students fear it will fuel the fires for hatred.
This noon time prayer is a daily practice for Muslims here in the Treasure Valley. It's also a part of Hosy Nasimi's everyday life. So is this, being a student at Boise State University. Combining the two can be tough, "There's really few people who know anything about Islam, they have no idea." Hosy is afraid that bringing author Robert Spencer on campus to talk about radical Islam won't help. In fact, she says it has the potential of making campus life dangerous for her and other Muslim students, "I want the school to be a safe place for me and other Muslims, not a place to be afraid to go."
Trevor Griggs, a member of the Young Republicans, says that isn't the group's intention. He says they want to educate people about Islam and the Muslim people, "They are a peaceful people but there are a few that are radical and you know, taking it overboard." Griggs says students need to know that, "We have to educate the students and all people in this valley that this is a real world threat."
Muslim student, Javed Zafar, partially agrees. He says discussion about the Koran and Islam needs to happen, so there can be no misunderstanding, "We should discuss about the common grounds of the Koran and the bible and other books."
As for Hosy, sh wants BSU students to be open minded, including respecting her beliefs and way of life.
