Remains likely those of missing Texas man

McCALL - Authorities with the Valley County Sheriff's office said Thursday afternoon that the human remains found about two weeks ago in a remote section of wilderness is likely those of a missing 40-year-old man from Austin, Texas.
Lt. Dan Smith said that the remains likely belong to James Richardson, who was reported missing about three years ago. "Everything points to him," Smith said. "Based on everything that we found at the scene it looks like it's all his gear." Smith said investigators aren't sure yet how Richardson may have died. At this point, Smith says, he may have fallen or possibly committed suicide. Investigators on horseback found camping gear, personal hygiene items and a sleeping bag. "There wasn't much left of the remains, he said. "There are wolves in the area." Police found his rental car near the Roosevelt Lake trailhead, which was reported stolen from Dollar Rent A Car in Boise. Smith reportedly spent some time in the Tamarack area before he went into the wilderness. His remains were found about 24 miles northeast of the small town of Yellow Pine. Smith says while next of kin have been notified, the case is still under investigation. |
