Boise families relieved hearing soldier sons are safe

BOISE - Two Boise families breathed a sigh of relief after learning their sons at Fort Hood are safe after Thursday's massacre.
The two soldiers, James Stanley and Brandon Barbour, were not able to call home right away after the shooting, and both say were waiting on pins and needles. “I was on-edge and scared. Really scared,” said Barbour's mother, Lynn Ciavarella. "We're concerned,” said Stanley's father, Timothy Stanley. “We don't know where he's going to be and and how safe he is or what's going to happen.” But Ciavarella says she heard from her son late Thursday night, and Stanley got a call Friday morning. Both soldiers reported in to home base, saying all was well. "I want to grab him and say, hey you bum! Call me and let me know what's going on sooner,” said Stanley. "The first thing he said was say, 'Hi mom, I 'm okay,” said Ciavarella, “and my heart just thumped a couple of beats. I said 'Thank you! What took so long calling?'” Now that the two families know their sons are safe, they would like to see them. That won't be too long for Barbour. Ciavarella says he's coming home for an entire month for Christmas. But Stanley says his son James is on his way to Russia and could be gone for years. |
