3A Snake River football 6-0 in state playoffs
By Troy Oppie
The three teams from the 3A Snake River Valley football Conference are undefeated thus far in the state playoffs, representing 75% of the semifinal round.
Video includes highlights from all three 3A SRV quarterfinal games. Saturday, Weiser scored 14 unanswered points in the second half to come from behind to beat South Fremont 21-12. The two teams combined for four turnovers in the first half alone - but neither team was able to capitalize on any of those changes of possession. Weiser will play top-ranked Shelley in Pocatello's Holt Arena Friday at 6 p.m. Payette rolled to a relatively easy 28-13 win up north against Timberlake High. Travis Blackwell had two touchdowns and the Pirates win the second playoff game in school history, right on the heels of last week's first-ever playoff win. The Fruitland Grizzlies looked unstoppable Friday night against a way-overmatched Orofino Maniacs. The Grizzlies capitalized on two first-quarter interceptions to jump to a 14-0 lead, and extended that lead to 20-0 early in the second quarter. Jordan Martin, Daulton Blackwell and Ty Graves combined for the first three scores, and Fruitland rolled into the semi-final round of the 3A state championship. Payette and Fruitland will meet Friday in Fruitland for the second time this season. Three weeks ago, the Pirates shocked the defending state runners-up 26-21. |
